Putting Linux on a USB is a fairly easy task and can be done in six steps. Going to the website of the Linux distribution and download the iso of the distribution, Downloading an iso writing program, Opening the program, selecting the iso and clicking write.
If you encounter difficulties then there are a few things you can try. Firstly make sure that you USB is formatted as FAT32, not NTFS the windows standard. Most iso writing packages will do this for you but it is always good to check.
If your USB is formatted correctly and still will not boot then try redownloading the iso image from the developers website it is possible that your iso could have been corrupted during download.
If your computer will still not boot off the USB then your computer may not be compatible with booting off a USB. In this scenario, you need to burn the iso imge to a DVD and try booting off that.
